Safety tips for motorists during monsoon rains - Deputy commissioner Traffic, Saravanan

With the onset of the north east monsoons, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Coimbatore S. Saravanan, has shared a few tips that needs to be followed by the public to ensure safe travel during rains.

Here are the tips:-

* Always ensure that your vehicle is in proper condition before starting for long journeys.

* Check if the front lights, breaks, clutch, wiper and tyre pressures are in good working condition.

*Try to avoid driving during heavy rains as the visibility would be very low.

* Several roads in our city experience water stagnation post rains, hence the motorists must take extra care and drive slowly.

*The speed breakers mostly get immersed in the rain water hence the motorists should check for proper road signs.

*Garbage and drainage holes at the sides of the roads might not be visible during rainy days, so it is advisable to use the centre of the road.

*People should stay away from driving on disconnected electric wires.

* Low-lying bridges that are flooded with water must be strictly avoided.

*Public should co-operate with the traffic police and adhere to the traffic rules to avoid unnecessary traffic halts and commotions.

The public can call the police control room to report unruly traffic or traffic halted due to water stagnation on roads. Additionally, the public can also WhatsApp their grievance to the city police exclusive WhatsApp helpline number 81900-00100.
