Former Vice Chancellor of Anna university sentenced to 5 years jail and 1,10,000 fine.


In a court hearing that took place today, former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University R Radhakrishnan was asked to pay a fine of Rs 1,10,000 by the Vigilance Court Magistrate K R Madurasekaran also sentenced him to five years imprisonment.

It came to light that the former VC allegedly took a bribe of Rs 40,000/- to purchase furniture during 2008 and 2009. The former VC and his wife are in possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs. 1.37 crore.

Following this the former VC of Anna University Radhakrishnan was arrested after a non-bailable warrant was issued by a court against him for failing to appear in court in connection with a case registered by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption against him. Having being suspended from his post the Vigilance Court had earlier issued summons to Radhakrishnan twice. However, the former VC had failed to appear before it and thus a non-bailable warrant was issued.
