Farmers in Mandya block road for 5 hrs

Mandya: Thousands of farmers blocked the busy Mysuru-Bengaluru highway on Sunday, disrupting traffic for over five hours. They wanted Cauvery water to be released from Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir to irrigation canals,

The farmers, under the aegis of Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha (KRRS), raised slogans against the government for allegedly not releasing water to canals, especially when their paddy crops are in flowering stage.

The protest saw vehicles piling up on both sides of the highway, forcing police to divert them to different routes.

The protesters warned assistant commissioner Arul Kumar that the agitation would continue on Monday if the government fails to release water by Sunday night.
