CISF to guard high court for one more year

The Central Industrial Security Force's (CISF) deployment in the Madras high court will be extended to another year, thanks to a direction of the court on Monday.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan said, "We regret that apparently there is the lack of co-ordination on the part of port trust (that gives approval to PWD for building residential quarters for CISF personnel as the land belongs to the port trust)... It thus becomes necessary for the port trust to nominate an officer." It had to be done within three days after informing the CISF, the bench said, adding, "If all aspects are not sorted out by the next date then we will have no option but to call the chairman, Chennai Port Trust to remain present personally in the Court."

The bench highlighted that according to the advocate general, PWD was carrying out the work pertaining to providing facilities like residential quarters to CISF. This would be completed by December 31. "The period of deployment of CISF is extended by one year and necessary government order (GO) for payment would be issued by the state government on being intimated by CISF," the bench said and posted the matter for January 24.
