The city municipal corporation has taken a tough stance against property tax defaulters by disconnecting their water connections.
'Today, a team of officials from the civic body have disconnected 11 such connections of defaulters. Repeated warnings and awareness has been created urging the public to pay taxes promptly. Before opting for the tough stance of disconnecting their utilities, warning notices to the defaulters reminding them of their pending dues have been served' says Special officer Vijayakarthikeyan.

The defaulters list comprised of apartments, individual houses and commercial establishments in all five zones. Ranging from a few thousands to lakhs, the water connections of these property tax defaulters were terminated with effect from today. Upon, clearing the dues with the added fine amounts, they could claim their connections back.
The defaulters could also use the recent tax-drive initiative by the Corporation announcing the public to clear tax dues using demonetised 500's and 1000's, however the last date for the tax drive ends on 14th November.
The statement from CCMC requests the public to remit their corporation taxes on-time, failing which stringent action would be taken against the defaulters.
