CCMC announces 'Ban on plastic' at all Corporation schools and offices.

The Coimbatore City Municipal Administration (CCMC) has issued a public notice enforcing a complete ban of plastic bags/cups/bottles at all Corporation offices and schools in the city.

The notice issued by the Special Officer, Vijayakarthikeyan reads that “All offices under the directive of the City Corporation are hereby asked to refrain from using plastics bags/cups and bottles with immediate effect.

Schools and all offices affiliated to the City Corporation will henceforth use only glass bottles instead of plastic bottles. And a placard with ' Free from plastics' will be installed at all offices and schools, he said.

The directive also emphasizes on the hazardous nature of the plastic bags on the environment. Every day the deterioration caused by the plastic is increasing at an alarming rate. People's lethargic and impetuous attitude has already created a irreversible damage to the environment.

The one-time use plastic items like water cups, plastic bottles, food packaging bags, non-woven plastic bags, polythene bags are disposed at will by the people. Domestic and wild animals graze on these disposed plastics and die due to ailments.

Those disposed plastic bags do not get de-composed instead suck the natural wealth of the soil. Awareness campaigns and warnings have been going hand-in-hand but still the public do not adhere to eco-friendly practices. It's time people act responsibly to protecting the environment and spread the word of eco-friendly living.
