This morning about 60 members of the Samuga Needhi Katchi gathered before the State Bank of India (SBI) Railway Station branch to protest against this bank’s decision to wave off bank loans owned by wilful defaulters, including Vijay Mallya’s non-operational airlines. It is reported that the SBI has waved off almost Rs 1,201 crore in dues owed by Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines.
In this regard, the members of this party under the leadership of Panneerselvam visited the SBI Railway Staten branch with a bouquet. The protesters also intended meeting the branch manager to hand over the bouquet to symbolically convey their displeasure against this banks decision to write off loans of wilful defaulters.
One of the protesters said “The same bank (SBI) that puts tremendous pressure on farmers and people from socio economic weaker sections of the society to pay up their bank loans and dues has waved off loans worth several crores of defaulters. In this regard we have come to this branch in person to offer a bouquet to the branch manager.”
However, the protestors were denied entry into the bank premises and it has also been reported that all the protestors of the Samuga Needhi Katchi were subsequently arrested by the police.
