The Medical Education Department has decided to permit setting up of 48 new paramedical colleges in the State in view of the demand for paramedical staff in the State . Of these, 17 will be government colleges.
The private colleges will offer nine courses, some of which include a diploma in medical laboratory technology, X-ray technology and medical records technology, among others.
Sachidananda S., Medical Education Director, told presspersons that there was a huge demand for these jobs as they were technical assistants to doctors. He said that besides the new colleges, 347 colleges were already functioning in the State.
“There is a huge demand for government and government-quota seats, all of which are filled every year,” he said.
Siddiqu Ahmed, Special Officer, Paramedical Board, said that there was a demand for 11 lakh paramedics across the country in health centres and diagnostic labs, but there were only seven lakh people who could qualify for the post.
The Paramedical Board has invited online applications and those who have passed SSLC can join a three-year diploma course, while those who have completed PU can apply for a two-year diploma course.
