Swacch Survekshan 2017, a ranking conducted by Ministry of Urban Development under Swacch Bharath mission to assess and rank 500 cities and towns based on levels of sanitation and efforts made by respective urban local bodies and also to capture progress towards achieving ‘Open Defecation Free’ status.
Cities with a population of a lakh and above each, heritage and tourism cities, capital cities with less than one lakh population will be included in this survey that is conducted in January 2017.
Swacch Survekshan 2017 workshop,a City-level workshop on 'Swacch Survekshan' for NGO's, Community Organizations and institutions was flagged off today at the Conference hall, CCMC Office. Special Officer, Vijayakarthikeyan inaugurated the event.

Swacch Women wonders, Swacch Bharat ambassadors, Namma Kovai team and members of Go Coimbatore team were part of this workshop. Enhancement of sanitary levels in rural and urban areas of the city, to create awareness among the public on cleanliness, the Swachh Aap mission, campaign highlighting the need for construction of toilets and ways of using it hygienically, role of Resident Welfare Associations to ensure cleanliness were discussed in detail at the meet.

The team aims at annihilating open-defecation in total from the city of Coimbatore and enhance cleanliness at all parts of the city through people's participation. A schedule for executing things on priority was also derived at the workshop.
