Carnatic vocalist,composer, renowned musician, playback singer, Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna (86) today breathed his last in Chennai at his residence. In recent days, he had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai for some ailments. After he was discharged, he passed away this evening at his residence. His death news has created shock waves among the Carnatic and cine industry.
He was honoured with India's second-highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan, for the contributions that he has made towards the field of Indian Art. He is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. This Indian Carnatic vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, playback singer, composer and actor was made Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2005.
He started his career in music at an early age of six and he has performed in over 25,000 music concerts across the world. He has shared the stage with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Kishori Amonkar, among others. He has also performed (on invitation) on counties like France, Middle East, Russia, Sri Lanka, US, UK, Canada, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore among others.
