On 4th November, orders were passed to release water from Parambikulam dam in Tirupur District. The water passes through Kangeyam, Vellakoil through Negamam and Sulthanpettai. Close to one lakh farmers are reportedly benefitted from this water.
Upon, receiving complaints, a team under the supervision of Vigilance Engineer, Elango. inspected the farmlands adjoining the canal near Moolanur, Pollachi suspecting of installation of illegal water pipelines from the main canal. The officials on inspection found that temporary pipelines were laid in a farmland owned by Palanisamy who had installed pipelines between his farmland and the main canal.
However, the Public Works Department (PWD) officials removed the pipes that were used for pumping water. The PWD officials filed a complaint on the farmer at the Negamam police station, who arrested the offender.
The District Administration officials have issued stringent warnings to the farmers to refrain from such illegal activities of laying pipelines or pumping water from the canals using motors.
