Coimbatore district collector T.N. Hariharan when speaking to the press after the Farmer grievances meeting said, “The average rainfall in Coimbatore district is 187.5mm till November 2016. About 820.6 mm of rainfall have been received.
Anaimalai and Pollachi regions have received the highest rainfall. The storage in Sholaiyar Dam is 34.95 ft, Azhiyar dam has 69.1 ft water, Parambikulam dam has 23.78 ft of water. Agriculture has been undertaken in an area of 48566 hectares. Out of which food crops are cultivated in an area of 1576 hectares.
Cholam has been cultivated in an area of 1286 hectares, corn in 1664 hectares, oil seeds in an area of 4080 hectares, Vegetable crops like chillies, onions, tomatoes is cultivated in an area of 8756 hectares. Other crops are cultivated in an area of 3869 hectares.
About 84360 tonnes of seeds of groundnut, green gram, toor dal, urad dal and 1287.199 tonnes of seeds of other crops are stored at various government and private go-downs. Farmers have been provided loans of 3646.25 crores by many nationalised and cooperative banks. The fertilizer stock in the district is 7626 metric tonnes out of which urea is 2705 metric tonnes, DAP is 1766 metric tonnes, potash 1623 metric tonnes is meant for distribution among farmers.
