The Palakkad forest department have requested the Railways to slow down the speed of the trains while they pass through the elephant crossing zones to 30 kmph. By that way, the driver can stop the train well ahead without leading to causalities. But trains that do not adhere to these instructions cost the life of elephants and other forest animals like deer and bison.
The post-mortem would be carried on the spot and the officials plan to bury the animal at the adjoining forest area. The adult male elephant was estimated to be 30-years-old and was seen with huge tusks.
