CCMC organized massive clean-up drive at Ukkadam bus stand last night

Last night, Swachh Bharat Ambassadors, heads and representatives of various NGOs joined hands with sanitary workers of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) and participated in a cleaning drive. Nearly 50 people participated in this massive clean-up drive that lasted from 9 last night and lasted till 12. Dr Vijay Karthikeyan, Commissioner, Coimbatore Corporation was at this venue. The Ukkadam bus stand and areas around the bus stand were cleaned.



As a part of this drive, posters from the walls of this bus stand and the surrounding areas were removed and the walls were cleaned. The volunteers also educated the public in these areas to keep the area neat and tidy.



Speaking to SimpliCity, K. V. Thirumal, Sanitary Officer and Nodal Officer of the Swachh Bharat mission said “This cleaning drive was organised as a part of the Swachh Bharat mission. We are ensuring that our city is ready for the Swachh Survekshan 2017 mission.”



Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu launched Swachh Suvekshan 2017 to assess and rank 500 cities and towns based on levels of sanitation and efforts made by respective urban local bodies and also to capture progress of each of the cities towards achieving ‘Open Defecation Free’ status. Coimbatore is one of the cities that has been selected to for the Swachh Suvekshan 2017 mission.
