635-kgs of ganja seized, couple arrested search on for two more persons

Partners in crime, the husband-wife duo of Ravi (35) and Thenmozhi (33) were arrested by the Sulur police last night. About 635-kgs of ganja was seized from the couple’s home and a search is on for two more persons who are reportedly involved in this crime. It has been reported that the couple was involved in the sale of ganja for the last seven months in Pattanam and Pattanampudhur near Sulur in Coimbatore.

Thenmozhi’s sister is married to a ganja smuggler from Theni. Before her marriage, Thenmozhi, was involved in packing ganja. After she got married to Ravi, the two moved to Kavundamaplayam in Coimbatore. The two were arrested by the Thudiyalur police for selling Ganja, following which they shifted base to Pattanam and Pattanampudhur.

The couple was sourced the ganja from Andhra Pradesh and they sold the same to a strong network of dealers. They operated their illegal trade of buying and selling ganja from their rented home in Pattanam.

What looked like a flourishing money-making business came to an end with the arrest of ganja peddler Riyaz. The Sulur police arrested Riyaz who informed them (the police) about Thenmozhi and Ravi. When the couple’s home was searched, about 635-kgs of ganja was confiscated. The police arrested Thenmozhi and Ravi and a search is on for Siva from Usilampatti and Jayabalan from Kavundamplayam for their involvement in the crime.

Superintendent of Police, R. V. Ramya Bharathi, visited the Sulur police station and she was briefed of the developments of the case. She appreciated the efforts of the police team under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Krishnamoorthy.
