Every person in this world likes music. Music was created from the sounds of nature like the sounds of birds and animals. Music has now grown in many dimensions with the help of technology. There are many forms of music in the world which differs according to the culture of the land it has evolved from. Rock music, Soul Music, Pop Music, Disco, Folk, Symphony are some of the music forms that have been created by musicians around the world.

Music is an art that has found a very important place in life of people of Tamil Nadu. Drums have also found an important place in Indian music. Musicians like Sivamani have performed at international platforms, which makes us feel proud. Ashish from Coimbatore is also a master of drums. As Coimbatoreans we can feel proud about having such talents living among us in this city. He is a unique drums player as he plays drums with his eyes blindfolded.

Sundararajan lives in Rathinapuri near Gandhipuram. He is an electronic goods dealer. Ashish (13) is his son studying 8th standard in Suguna matriculation school. His parents who came to know of his interest in music sent him to a music academy to learn music. They also bought him a drums kit for practicing at home. Sundararajan has left no stone unturned in helping his son to learn music.

Ashish when speaking to SimpliCity said, “My parents encouraged my interest in music when I was studying in 2nd standard. I was playing guitar in the beginning. My parents sent me to a music class. Music teacher Elango asked me to learn to play drums. He told me that playing drums will make the muscles in the body active. I started to give importance to playing drums. I practiced to play drums blindfolded when I was studying in 6th standard. I got chance to play in school functions. I got first prize in state and district level competitions.”

“I got a chance to play drums during the inauguration ceremony of the state level athletic meet that was held in Nehru Stadium in January. Minister S.P. Velumani and Archana Patnaik, the then Coimbatore district collector were present during the function. My school gave me freedom to perform at the event. Teachers also give me time to complete my practice lessons. My parents also arranged for 2 hours of extra coaching for me at home. Support of teachers and parents encouragement has helped me grow. I am trying for a place in Limca book for records.”
