With the aim of spreading the message of sanitation and cleanness, a month long ‘Kashmir to Kanyakumari Swachh Bharat Tour de Rotary’ was flagged off from Jammu on 7 November. As a part of this month-long cycling expedition, cyclists will pedal across the length and breadth of our country. The Rotary Foundation Centennial Cycle Rally – Kashmir to Kanyakumari Swachh Bharat Tour de Rotary is being hosted by Rotary Club of Madras Midtown, RI Dist. 3230. The rally is to promote 100 years of good work done by Rotary Foundation which raises funds for humanitarian service projects including clean and green India projects.

As a part of this cycling expedition, the cyclists will travel through Delhi, Jaipur, Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram to reach Kanyakumari. This morning the cyclists were given a warm welcome in Coimbatore. The Coimbatore Municipal Corporation along with The Lead Club, Rotary club of Coimbatore Midtown and 22 other Clubs in Coimbatore region are supporting the prestigious Swachh Bharat Cycle Rally in Coimbatore.

Members of these clubs were present during this flag-off event that was hosted in our city from Residency Towers this morning. Pathy, Rotary District Governor (Elect) flagged-off this cycling expedition to Kochi.

Students too are participating in this event and they will cycle a distance of about 5 kms to support the noble cause. The team of 22 cyclists from Coimbatore will join the national cyclists who are cycling from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

As the entire state is mourning the death of our former Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha, officials from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) and other Government officials did not participate in this programme as a mark of respect.
