Arunbabu (60) is a retired government official residing in Sripathy Nagar on Najundapuram Road in Coimbatore came across a car for sale ad on OLX. The selling price of the car posted on this website was Rs. 5 lakhs. When Arunbabu called the number that was shared on this website, the person on the phone informed him to deposit Rs.5,000 in a bank account. Subsequently, Arunbabu deposited the cash in the bank account. He got no further information from the persons. The mobile number was also switched off.
Following this, Arunbabu filed a complaint with the cybercrime police on the 31st of last month. Police who conducted an enquiry found that Naresh (22), Sherif (22), Abu Thahir (22), Mushtafa (21), Musadiq (21), Samrudin (19) and Madina Begum (29) were involved in the crime of cheating people in the cyber space.

Police arrested the seven persons and upon enquiry it was learnt that this gang was involved in posting false advertisements online and cheating people. Police confiscated a car and a two wheeler from this gang. The cyber crime police have said that the photographs of the accused will be released this evening.
