K. Venkatachalam (28), a native of Thathapuram Village, Salem district was returning home from work, on his two wheeler on 7 December. His vehicle collided with a private bus near Perundurai Main Road. Following this accident, Venkatachalam was thrown away from his motorbike and he sustained head injuries. He was admitted to Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) Erode for treatment. Failing to respond to treatment, Venkatachalam was declared brain dead his family came ahead to donate his vital organs, thus giving a new lease of life to five.
Venkatachalam’s father, Kandasamy, an agriculturist by profession and Sarojini his mother, a home maker agreed to donate the vital organs of their son. Following this, Venkatachalam was shifted to KMCH, Coimbatore.
In the presence of family members and relatives, team of Doctors from KMCH and Coimbatore Government Hospital (GH) completed the statutory requirement. The doctor’s team harvested liver, both the kidneys and eyes from Venkatachalam. The harvested liver and both kidneys were transplanted at KMCH and eyes were sent to a private hospital in the city.
The family members felt proud that his organs gave new lease of lives to five needy people.
