Uprooted tree halts traffic on Ooty-Coonoor road

Following the 'Vardah' Cyclone, several parts in the state experienced squally winds and partial rains. Rains lashed down in the Nilgris district and the adjoining areas accompanied with rough winds.



Several trees had uprooted causing traffic blocks in and around the district of Nilgris.At the Marapalam Junction (9th hairpin) bend, a very old tree had uprooted causing a road block. In a land slide at the same place, a rock had also rolled out from the hilly slopes. However, no causalities or damage has been reported.



The Rescue department rushed to the spot and cut the trees to bits and cleared the debris. The rock was also removed from the site. After a long wait the traffic resumed back to normalcy.
