Owing to landslide, Nilgiri Mountain Railway services suspended today.


Operating between Mettupalayam and Coonoor, Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) also dubbed as the toy train is non-operational today. Since last night, the Nilgiris district and surrounding regions have received heavy spells of rainfall. Following indecisive rain, landslides have occurred in several places in this region.



A landslide has reportedly occurred in Hill Grove, about 17-kilometers from Mettupalayam. This has resulted in the uprooting of trees. A debris flow sits on the railway track. A team of men are at this location and the debris of rocks, mud, branches of trees are being removed from the train tracks.



Officials share that once the route is cleared, the NMR will be back on track. NMR that operates everyday starts its journey from Mettupalayam at 7 am and reaches destination Coonoor at 10:15 am. NMR begins its onwards journey from Coonoor at 5 pm. En-route the NMR offers picturesque view of the Nilgiri Mountains.
