It's a proud moment for the City of Coimbatore, as Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has been selected by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to receive the prestigious 'Digital India' award for it's exemplary growth in digital initiatives and citizen engagement.
The Digital India Awards, constituted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, acknowledges exemplary initiatives/practices of various states/UTs in the realm of e-governance.

Speaking on this, CCMC's Special Officer, Vijayakarthikeyan said that 'CCMC is been recognized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for the digital initiatives like free WIFI and citizen engagement programmes hosted in the year 2016. The ministry will accolade CCMC with 'Digital India; award on 19th December, at the 'Digital India Awards' ceremony to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Shri.Ravishankar Prasad, Hon' Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice will confer the awards in the presence of Shri. P.P Chaudhary, Minister State Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice.
The digital India programme by the central government aims at universal access of information to the people through digital services. Diverse services, schemes and initiatives announced or proposed by the central/state/local bodies is easily accessible to the people after digitization.
Nominations were invited from states/Union territories and Local bodies under varied categories. This year, three new categories have been introduced to the existing awards,Web Ratna District, Outstanding Digital initiative by Local body and Best Mobile App'.
