A goldsmith from Coimbatore has committed suicide as he was out of work, following the demonetisation of Rs.1000 and Rs.500 currency notes by the central government. Murugananadham was from M.N.K Street from Coimbatore. Post the demonetisation of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 rupees currency notes he was found depressed as he was not getting enough jobs orders. He spoke to his relatives about his dire state. However, no one came to his rescue.
It has been reported that this Sunday, when his wife Sridevi returned home after going out with their children, she found Muruganandham hanging from the ceiling fan in their home. On hearing her cries for help, her neighbours tried to rescue Muruganandham. However, they found they found that was dead already.
Variety Hall police came to the location and sent the body of the deceased to the Coimbatore General Hospital (GH) for post-mortem. Muruganandham’s relatives and members of the jewellery manufacturers association have said that demonetisation has left several people in this profession out of work and also it has made it difficult to get money for the work they have completed already. This had forced Muruganandham to take the extreme step.
