TNSTC bus confiscated for failing to pay compensation to the family of accident victim

Today, a bus belonging to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited (TNSTC) was confiscated by the Court, as the settlement amount ordered by the Court to be paid as compensation for the victim remains unpaid.

On 31st March 2016, Venkat Prasad from Marudhamalai area was hit by TNSTC bus and died on the spot. Following the accident, his wife Saroja filed a case in the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Coimbatore seeking due compensation from TNSTC.

The tribunal ordered TNSTC to pay a sum of Rs. 15.90 lakhs to Saroja as compensation. But till now, the family of the deceased are yet to receive the compensation. In connection to the non-adherence of the tribunals judgment, the Court ordered to confiscate the TNSTC bus with immediate effect.
