Nigerian citizen withheld by Coimbatore airport authorities for carrying 57 lakhs of cash.


This morning, a Nigerian Citizen has been with held by the Coimbatore Airport authorities as he was caught red-handed for carrying 57 lakhs of cash without proper supporting documents.



Acting on a tip-off the airport authorities were all set to search the passengers of Indigo flight that landed in Coimbatore from New Delhi. Upon investigating a Nigerian Citizen, a passenger of the Indigo flight, Chukwudebelu Tochukwu Chijioke from Kenya was found carrying 57 lakhs of cash, out of which 53 lakhs were in new 2000 rupee notes and then rest 4 lakhs were in old demonetized 500's and 1000's. 

When interrogated, Chijioke was unable to answer the officials regarding the source of money. The Coimbatore airport officials seized the cash and are currently investigating him.
