Seminar on GST hosted by Coimbatore chapter of TiE and ICCI


Coimbatore chapter of TiE and Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) had organised a seminar on GST titled ‘GST current preparedness and way forward’. The event took place at the Chamber Towers on Avinashi road in the city. Keynotes address was delivered by N.J. Kumaresh IRS, additional commissioner of central exercise department in Coimbatore. Presidential address was delivered by Vanitha Mohan President of ICCI Coimbatore chapter.



In her address she said, “Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a long pending issue. ICCI Coimbatore is continuously working to familiarise GST among the people. ICCI is conducting various sessions to bring people to the GST route. GST is a onetime activity, but it needs lot of fine tuning at present. In future ICCI will organise sessions to educate people on GST.” she said.

N.J. Kumaresh IRS in his keynote address said “GST is not one nation one tax concept it is one nation dual tax. About 60% of the work on implementing GST has been completed. They are already in the process of bringing other tax people under the GST regime. GST council has been constituted for the purpose. The GST council will have a representative from each state as a member. Some states are opposing the GST bill due to the fear of dilution of the state rights” he said.



At this seminar, he also explained the various aspects of the GST to the participants. The organisers said that sessions on GST will be conducted by K. Sivarajan. TiE president Karthikeyan was also present at this event.
