Hindu Makkal Katchi petitions chief minister for conducting Jallikattu and Sevalkattu


Coimbatore District President of Hindu Makkal Katchi, V.V. Manickam has petitioned the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, O. Panneerselvam to permit conducting the Jallikattu (bull fight) and Sevalkattu (rooster fight) which are notable traditional sports of Tamil Nadu.



In the petition he has said, “Jallikattu and Sevalkattu which are traditional sports of Tamil Nadu and also a system to prevent the native breeds from extinction have been banned by the Supreme Court owing to a petition filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Claiming the allegations to be fake, repeated requests have been made by several organisations seeling permission to conduct the sport. While the case is still pending in the Supreme Court, Tamil Nadu government should take immediate action to remove the ban on Jallikattu and Sevalkattu', the petition stated.
