M. Prashanth (21) and M. Sreeram (23) who are from Coonoor have been selected as officials referees for the Hockey India, 7th National sub-juniors Hockey championship Ramanathapuram. The championship will be held from 3rd January to 23rd January.
President of Nilgiris Hockey association S .Ananthakrishnan said “The last time when umpires from Nilgiris were in action at the Nationals was in 2000.We groomed these youngsters since 2013. They have gained exposure of officiating at various tournaments in the past couple of years" he said.
J. Balamurugan, Secretary of Hockey Nilgiris Association says, "They hail from a poor economic background but devoted their full attention to passing all necessary tests to become qualified umpires."
