City Police and KMCH join hands to ensure a safe New Year’s Eve.

The city police, in a bid to make our roads safe during New Year’s Eve have initiated a novel campaign. As part of this campaign, motorists are reminded to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a responsible manner. The city police have started tagging New Year greeting cards with messages on road safety and these cards are being distributed to motorists on our roads. All this is being done to ensure that our roads are safe and accident-free on New Year’s Eve.

Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) has joined hands with the city police in this initiative. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Saravanan, motorists will be checked at 22 vantage points in association with KMCH on major roads in the city to control drunk driving. Ambulances by KMCH will be deployed at four major places for emergency service. On main stretches, barricades will be placed at regular intervals to cut down speeding of vehicles. While the police will have surveillance over strategic locations in the city with CCTV cameras, close to 2,000 cops will be deployed to maintain law and order.

Those who are found driving under the influence of alcohol will be made to stay at the camps along with counseling sessions by Volunteers from Kasthurba Gandhi De Addiction Rehabilitation and Research.

With the support of online taxi operators, the police have also erected flex boards advising sensible celebrations on major roads. The police have also planned to reveal some surprise celebrations for the public on roads on the New Year Eve with the support of NGOs and KMCH.
