Vellingiri (70) and Bhagavathy (58) a couple of Vellapathi Village, near Kovai Kutralam were engaged in picking wooden logs and sticks from the adjoining forest area. Their routine day turned disastrous after they shockingly encountered a wild tusker right in front of them in the woods.

Totally taken aback by the sight, the couple screamed and made all attempts to secure their lives. But in no time, the tusker threw Vellingiri with its tusk, killing him on the spot.

The ferocious tusker started chasing it's next target, Bhagavathy. The elderly woman ran and screamed for help from the natives of the village who were living closer-by.  All was over within a fraction of second, Bhagavathy was trampled by the tusker, leaving her sustain grave injuries.

Hearing Bagyavathy's plea for help, the natives of this area rescued her and sent her to Government General Hospital (GH) for treatment. Unfortunately, not responding to treatment, Bhagyavathy was declared dead at GH.
