During the last couple of months of last year, the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) went on an expansion spree, where a majority of its departments were relocated to new buildings in the hospital campus and they currently are armed with better facilities. This year, too started off on a positive note for the CMCH. A highly placed source from the CMCH, shares with SimpliCity that one of the three patients who have been shortlisted will undergo a kidney transplantation at CMCH soon.
“This entire procedure will be cashless and will be performed under the late CMs insurance scheme. We are waiting for a go-ahead from authorities. The paper work and other formalities have been completed and the team of doctors from the department of urology and nephrology are ready to perform this procedure.” Dr. Edwin Joe, Dean CMCH said.
Along with getting ready to perform its debut kidney transplant procedure, the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at CMCH is getting ready to perform cardiology related procedures. A highly placed source at the CMCH shares that very soon the team of experts at this department will perform cardio procedures like open heart surgery, by-pass surgery among other procedures. “We will begin with treating adults first and once we are set, we will consider the inclusion of paediatric cardiology.” said the source.
Another piece of good news from the CMCH is that this hospital has plans of setting up infrastructure and equipment to enable people to do a complete master health check up. We are told that this new facility will be set up in the CMCH hospital premises at a cost of rupees 10-crores. Once this facility is declared open, patients will be provided with an option of the silver, gold or the platinum health check-up schemes for a nominal cost.
This facility we are told will be on par with the ones at the private hospitals and will be equipped with all the required facilities like ECG, x-ray, thread mill test, pathology lab, microbiology lab, ECHO, cell counter and mammogram facilities. The state Government has announced that it will sanction funds to set up this facility at the CMCH. This hi-tech lab and scan centre at the CMCH will be functional in the next few months.
