A ten member team of girl students from the Corporation High School in Puliakulam, accompanied by a staff and volunteers of the Aram Foundation Charitable Trust are all set to leave to Bengaluru to represent Coimbatore in the grand finale of the Bala Janaagraha South Zonal Civic Fest that will be hosted on 7 January.
Bala Janaagraha project has been implemented by Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) in association with Aram Foundation Charitable Trust and Spice Foundation. The guidance and continued support of CCMC Special Officer, K. Vijayakarthikeyan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S. Saravanan have been a great motivation for the students to stand apart.

As a part of this project, students were asked to select a 250 m stretch, identify civic problems, report them and also offer a feasible solution to the problems. Six corporation schools from our city participated in this Bala Janaagraha project and the ten member team from Corporation High School in Puliakulam has made it to the grand finale of the South Zonal Civic Fest.
As a part of this project, the team of girls from the Corporation High School in Puliakulam selected the stretch of road from the Coimbatore Kidney Centre to Shree Hospital in Puliakulam. The team of girls reported several civic issues that this road lacks.
The suggestions proposed by the students were just not for the sake of project but indeed Special Officer, CCMC has passed on orders to implement the ideas proposed by the students with immediate effect. DC (traffic) has also passed orders to paint the speed breakers and zebra crossing spots.
Thanks to their efforts, this road now has a zebra crossing and speed breakers have also been installed. All this we are told, has been implemented at marathon speed by the CCMC in coronation with city traffic police.

Another issue that the team of girls brought to light is the pathetic condition of the public toilets that are located in this vicinity. These toilets have been cleaned and they receive their supply of water and electricity. Encroachments from this stretch have also been removed.
“It is a matter of pride that the team of girls has made it to the grand finale of the Bala Janaagraha South Zonal Civic Fest. This exercise has boosted the confidence of the girls.” Latha Sundaram, Managing Trustee of Aram Foundation Charitable Trust said.
