Farmer in Tiruppur succumbs to cardiac arrest as his crops die out of drought.

The entire state of Tamil Nadu has been shook by the continued deaths of farmers due to crop failure and alleged lack of support by the Government to shoulder them during such crisis. Unable to withstand the harrowing sight of their crops die due to lack of water and worsening financial crisis, close to 100 farmers have lost their precious life by committing suicide and succumbing to cardiac arrests.

Yet another farmer's death has been reported in the District of Tiruppur. Agriculturist, Chinnappan (72) owns a 12-acre farmland in the Thekkalur area, out of which he had cultivated coconut trees in 4 acres. Close to 350 coconut trees stood tall in his farmland. Struck in the failure of monsoons, Chinnappan's bore-well started drying-up. Recently, he dug 8 more bore-wells to compensate the water scarcity but it all ended up in vexation as the ground water did not show up at all.

Unable to water the trees on-time, the coconut trees started to dry up. Chinnappan could not withstand the tormenting sight of his trees getting dried up. 'Every day he was seen very disturbed', says his family members. Yesterday, he suddenly succumbed to a cardiac arrest and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Coimbatore. Not responding to the treatment, Chinnappan passed away this morning.

Distressed over the mounting debts and unforeseen water scarcity, the farmers in the State of Tamil Nadu are struck in the clutches of poverty and financial crisis. Trepidation and woeful situation prevail in the State as every day the State records an alarming death rate of the farmers. However, this situation has evoked several unprecedented protests by farmer associations, political outfits and social organizations condemning and pointing the government's ineptness to safeguard the interests of the farmers. As the livelihood of the farmers have become so uncertain, the vexed farmers continue to press charges against the State and Central Government for not taking up their issues seriously and for not figuring out real-time solutions.
