Sri Sarada Devi’s birthday celebrated as 'Annai Vizha' at Avinashilingam University


Sri Sarada Devi, was a virgin nun and a  spiritual consort of Sri Ramakrishna. Today students and staff of Avinashilingam University celebrated her birthday as ‘Annai Vizha’. As part of the celebrations, special bajans were conducted from 6am to 12.30pm, following which a meeting was hosted at the auditorium of this college.

S. Annapurani, Professor and Head of department of Biological Sciences of this University welcomed the gathering. Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram, Managing Trustee, Sri Avinashilingam Education Trust Institutions, presided over the meeting.

Pravrajika Yatindraprana, Sannyasini of Sri Sarada Math, Chennai was the guest of honour at the event. Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram, in his presidential address spoke about the supreme qualities of the 'Holy mother', Shri Sarada Devi.

Sannyasini Pravrajika Yatindraprana, the guest of honour of the event spoke on the topic “Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi’s Message to Modern Women”. In her speech she talked about the outstanding qualities of Sri Sarada Devi. She also talked about the progressive views and contribution in uplifting the lives of the women. She also narrated some interesting incidents that happened in Sri Sarada devi's life and how she overcame the toughest parts in her life with fervor and courage. Her boundless love and compassion towards fellow beings made people call her as 'Mother', she said.

Dr. R. Saradha, Professor, Department of Chemistry proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Premavathy Vijayan, Vice-Chancellor, Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore, former Vice-Chancellor, Saroja Prabhakaran. professors, and students of this university participated in the celebrations.
