Members of Adhinam Valar Tamil Iyakkam an organisation for the development of Tamil language today conducted a hunger strike in Coimbatore. The protesters made 10 demands including their demand that Tamil should be made the medium of instruction in all the schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The protestors also demanded that the 100% reservation should be provided in government jobs for those who have studied through Tamil medium. Members and representatives of several Tamil organisations participated in this hunger strike which took place in Sivananda Colony in the city. The Ilayapattam of Perur Adhinam Marudhachala Adigalar, and students too joined this hunger strike.
Protestors said that English is the medium of instruction in 7,000 primary schools in Tamil Nadu, this should be changed and Tamil should be made the medium of instruction in all these schools and in colleges. The protesters also stated that Tamil should be made the officials language in Courts and Tamil Nadu government offices. They added that they will go on a hunger strike unto death if their demands are not fulfilled.
