Ortho One in association with Rotary Club of Coimbatore organized a seminar on "Prevention of Sports Injury" today in the city. The seminar threw light on various aspects of sports Injury and how one can overcome the pain at both physical and psychological levels. The levels of enthusiasm in sports and athletic events have been rising among people, so, it is becoming more important to learn about sports Injuries and how to deal with them. The injuries can sometimes cause turmoil which can be a disaster in a sports person's life.

Dr.David V Rajan, founder of Ortho One said that "Coimbatore has become the centre for many sports and athletic meets. Lot of participants of various age groups are coming to this city from different places. Though all the safety issues are taken care of, sometimes injuries and bruises are bound to happen. If the right treatment is given at the right time, grave results can be avoided. However, unfortunately, there is lack of awareness among the trainers and players about the first aid to be given in such cases.”
“At present, the hospital sees nearly 40% cases of sports injury, a majority of which are preventable, if the golden rule of warm up is followed. The warm up exercise before she / he gets on the field will help to increase the blood flow to the muscles and it will make them more flexible, thus preventing minor injuries. The main aim of this seminar is to impart knowledge to participants about sports injury, prevention and care. The seminar will cover various topics like physical fitness, first aid methods, mental fitness, and diets to be followed.”

Various aspects related to this subject were addressed by experienced doctors. Sounderajan, President of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Cyber City and Thiagarajan, President of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Midtown, shared that they are planning to host similar events in the future in order to create awareness among people on this subject. Sports trainers and athletes from various disciplines participated in this programme.
