Sankara College of Science and Commerce, today, hosted a one day National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) sponsored National Seminar on 'Quality Enhancement in Higher Education' at their college campus. This day-long event saw the participation of around 250 faculty members from colleges and universities from in and around our city. Dr. B. Vanitha, Registrar (i/c), Bharathiar University Inaugurated the function and delivered the Inaugural address. She spoke on ‘Transformational Interventions to achieve Global Standards in Indian Higher Education by 2030’.
In the forenoon session, Dr. M G Sethuraman, IQAC Director, Gandhigram Rural Institute, highlighted on the ‘Quality Metrics in Higher Education’. Through his address, he insisted on how academic programmes are to be need based and introduce specialized training courses as per social and economic demands. He emphasised on the fact that the learning process has to undergo a sea change in curriculum, which in turn raises the standard of quality in higher education.
The post lunch session was on ‘Quality Sustenance parameters for Higher Education’ by Dr P Shanmugavadivu, Professor and Head - Department of Computer Science and Applications, Gandhigram Rural Institute. She pointed out that for a steady and focused progress of any Institution, quality and versatility are the essential factors. She added that to develop a rapport between a teacher and student, teaching must be a personalized one, catering to the needs of the individual student.
In the final session, Dr. J Radhika, Principal, Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, Trichy spoke on ‘Quality Enhancement in teaching and learning’. She stated that the use of e-content is the need of the hour and so the teachers must use and create new software for better facilitation of learning. She also highlighted on ‘edmodo’ which is a website useful for both students and teachers, which serves as a learning aid.
