With the aim of improving passenger service and gratification, Southern Railway is undertaking a series of holistic checks in trains that are operational under this division. This inspection will cover all aspects such as unauthorized vendors, unauthorized travellers, ticketless travelling, quality of food supplied in trains, among others.

It has been reported that such a holistic check was conducted by the Commercial branch Officials of Salem Division under the leadership of Viju Vin, Divisional Commercial Manager/Coordination, between Coimbatore and Salem, in Train Nos. 22646 Trivandrum-Indore Ahilya Nagari Express and 17229-Trivandrum-Hyderabad Sabari Express.
During the check, 104 persons caught red-handed travelling without ticket and a fine of Rs.39,090/- was collected from them. About 8 unauthorised vendors were apprehended and handed over to RPF for necessary action, after collection of Rs.3,800/- as fine from them. A transgender person was found to be creating nuisance to the passengers in the train and was warned suitably.

Also, as a part of this inspection, railway officials interacted with passengers to obtain their feedback. Passengers who were interacted with, expressed happiness over such measures. More such holistic checks are being planned across the Salem Division in the ensuing days, as per the directions of Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, Salem.
