Sanitation workers go on a protest demanding better payment as announced by Apex Court.


Sanitary workers who are members of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today conducted a protest in the city pressing various long-pending demands, like better remuneration, contractual to permanent employment status and to fill in the vacancies. The protest was led by Paramasivam, the Union Secretary, in front of the South Taluk office in the city.

They jointly demanded that jobs in this sector should be created according to the population of the city and the minimum salary which has been announced by the collector for sanitary workers should be provided to them.



The protestors also stated that vacancies should be filled in all the local bodies, sanitary workers on contract should be given priority while appointing permanent sanitary workers.

'Equal salary should be given to all sanitary workers as per the orders of the Supreme Court. Rs. 300 daily wages, should be given to all the sanitary workers working in corporation and municipal limits' they urged.
