Coimbatore district collector T.N. Hariharan has invited applications from deserving women for the 'Avvaiyar Award to be presented on the world women's day. Every year the prestigious 'Avvaiyar Award' will be presented to women who have tirelessly worked towards uplifting the lives of women.
Last year, the Avvaiyar Award was honored to Sarada Menon, Founder of SCARF (Schizophrenia Care and Research Foundation) by Former Chief Minister, Dr. J. Jayalalitha, for her remarkable contribution in the field of of mental health and rehabilitation.
For this year, 2016-2017, the District Collector through a press release has announced that interested women who fit in the criterion can apply for the award. The applicants should be born in Tamil Nadu and should be over 18-years old. The person should have worked for the upliftment of women or should have been involved in social welfare activities or should be have worked in the field of language, ethnicity, culture, arts, science and management such that of benefit to the society.
The applications should be submitted at the District Social Welfare Department office, Kevin School, Poomarket. The last date for submission of the application is 17th January, 2017.
