The Sadivayal elephant camp is situated near Kovai Kutralam in Coimbatore.
Kumki elephants have been stationed here to control the wild elephants that stray into the residential area. Also, at this camp, treatment is provided to the elephants which are ill.
Last night, it has been reported that a wild elephant entered the camp and attacked the kumki elephant. In this attack, a kumki elephant named Sujay (44) at the camp is reportedly grievously injured. Upon hearing hearing loud noises the Paagans (elephant watchers) deployed at the camp chased off the wild elephant.
Sujay was seen bleeding as it's right side tusk was broken. An expert crew of doctors are currently treating the injured elephant.
It is to be noted that this Kumki Sujay has been used by the forest officials to chase off elephants from the forests entering into residential areas and farmlands. Last April, Sujay was one among the four Kumki's used by the forest officials to corner a rogue elephant at the Gudalur-Cherangode road.
