The Public works department (PWD) has released an order to release water for irrigation purpose from the Thirumoorthy reservoir to the farmers in Zone-3, under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project for areas under Palar basin The orders were passed on 17th January, 2016 and the following set of rules are been proposed by the PWD department.
1. As drought has struck the state, despite water scarcity the PWD department has decided to release water from the Thirumoorthy reservoir for the farmers in Zone-3. Hence, the farmers are advised to use the water meticulously.
2. Withdrawing water from the canal using pressurized motor and suction pumps is illegal. Those who indulge in such illegal activities will be attract legal action along with disconnection of electricity to their farmlands.
3. Diverting the water from their zones (ayacut) to other zones is strictly prohibited.
4. The farmers should refrain from activities like damaging the canals or re-routing the water from the canals to their farmlands.
5. A special team has been deployed to monitor the situation. If anyone is found to indulge in any illegal activities they will be punished accordingly. Keeping in mind, the intense scarcity of water, the farmers are hereby asked to use the water very efficiently.
