Tourist from Spain voices support for Jallikattu in Coimbatore

For the past two days, the city of Coimbatore is recording an incredible and unabated support for Jallikattu from students, organisations and from people from all walks of life. Surprisingly, the visitors from other parts of the world to our city have also registered their support for Jallikattu.

Tourists from Spain, Mongolia and Philippines who are presently staying in Coimbatore took part in the protests at the VOC grounds.

Speaking to us, a citizen of Spain, Moriceau, stated that, 'We have come to Coimbatore in connection with a NGO-related meeting. Yesterday, we came across the protests hosted in the city for conduct of Jallikattu, which is a traditional sport of the Tamil-speaking people. Out there in Spain, sports involving bulls are very popular. After very game about five bulls will be killed. Yet, no ban has been imposed on those sports, as it's our age-old tradition and culture.

Similarly, Jallikattu is a traditional bull-taming sport practiced by the people in Tamil Nadu. This sport does not even involve any killing of the bulls, it's just taming. Hence, the sport should be allowed to be conducted, as it's a part of their culture. We were awe-struck to see the rip-roaring supporters of Jallikattu which persuaded us to render our support', Moriceau, said.
