The city of Coimbatore is presently experiencing an acute water scarcity. For the time first ever, the Siruvani water supply has been stopped in the city as the needs of Siruvani has thoroughly dried up. The city corporation is taking all prudent steps to tackle the scarcity issue at all the 100 wards.
A recent announcement by the corporation has shocked the people of this city which declared 12 days of water supply from hereon till the next rains. Yet, situations in certain place like Kuruchi and Kuniamuthur have become worse. Despite corporation lorries dispersing water at regular intervals, the people of these area continue to face desperate situations.
Reacting to this, Special Officer, CCMC has told, 'Orders have been passed to disburse additional 30 liters of water from Pillur Plan-1 to Kuruchi area and additional 20 liters to Kuniamuthur from Aliyar. Presently, Kuruchi area has been receiving 51 litres of water and Kuniamuthur 39 litres, this additional disbursement will help them to tackle the water crisis prevailing at those areas' he said.
Special Officer also revealed that 'New pipelines to divert the Aliyar drinking water to Kuniamuthur area is on-going, however, this action will not affect the waters disturbed to Kuruchi and Machampalayam. People from all 100 wards are advised to use water efficiently, refrain from water wastage and work-in-hand with the corporation to tackle this situation'
