Coimbatore: It was a golden double for Tamil Nadu as the state team clinched the overall championships in both men's and women's category at the South India Weight Lifting Championship 2019, held at the Nehru Arts and Science College, here in the city.
Coimbatore: It was a golden double for Tamil Nadu as the state team clinched the overall championships in both men's and women's category at the South India Weight Lifting Championship 2019, held at the Nehru Arts and Science College, here in the city.
Around 375 weight lifters from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry participated in the three-day championship held from Februay 15-17 at the college premises. The Championship was jointly organised by the Nehru Group of Institutions, Tamil Nadu Amateur Weight Lifting Association and the Coimbatore District Amateur Weight Lifting Association. Tamil Nadu bagged a total of 20 medals (men - 10 and women - 10) in various categories, emerging as overall champions in the Championship.

R Muralitharan, Vice President, Tamil Nadu Amateur Weight Lifting Association and G K Selvakumar, President of Coimbatore Amateur Weight Lifting Association were the chief guests at the prize distribution and awarded prizes to the winners of the competition.
Winners: M. Naveen Kumar, R Aravindan, E Maharajan, G.Palanivel Rajan, H.Gopi, S Vijayakumar, R Kanimalai, G.P Anish Kumar, S Abiram, K Navah Siddharthan secured medals in their respective categories, under the men's category. In the women's category, R Nithya, J Jesintha, D Thamizharasi, G Agalya, I Brindha, T Divya, S Menaka, R Suba Ranjini, P Kanimozhi and K Swetha were the medalists in various categories.
