About 4,000 Police personnel up vigil in the city on Babri Masjid demolition anniversary

More number of police personnel have been deployed for security duty this year in Coimbatore district in view of the Babri masjid demolition anniversary. The recent car bomb blast made the police force to up their vigil.


Coimbatore: Following the Babri Masjid demolition day being observed tomorrow the police have beefed up the security measures and brought the city under a heavy security blanket to avoid any eventualities. About 4,000 police personnel have been deployed across the district, including 3,000 in the city and 1,000 in the suburbs and they keep up their vigil round the clock.

Precautionary security measures are being taken across the country every year to prevent any untoward incident happening on December 6, the day of the demolition of the Babri Masjid. an epochal event in the history of independent India.



The police have made it a point to make additional security measures, in the wake of recent car bomb blast in city last month, and important locations are being monitored as they come under oolice 'red list" areas.

The police, are maintaining vigil and surveillance in crowded areas such as Gandhipuram Crosscut Road, Town Hall and Bazaar, Ukkadam, Pothanur, Sundarapuram, etc., are allowing vehicles passing through the area only after thorough checking.

Similarly, police have been deployed at Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand, Thiruvalluvar Bus Stand, Mofussil Bus Stand, Singanallur Bus Stand and Ukkadam Bus Stand.

Important temples, churches and mosques, including Koniyamman temple and Dandu Mariamman temple have been brought under the security blanket.. Apart from this, three layers of security have been put in places including railway stations and the airport.



Bomb experts and sniffer dogs have been pressed into service in markets and trains. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Babri Masjid demolition anniversary day, Islamic organisations have planned to stage demonstrations at three places in the city.
