Quarry and crusher owners strike: 1300 crore loss per day

The Coimbatore Quarry and Crusher Welfare Association recently conducted a strike, leading to a business loss of Rs 1,300 crore per day. The association has demanded that the government should take immediate action to come up with an amicable solution to the problem.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Quarries and Crushers Welfare Association has urged that the government promptly call and find a smooth solution to the economic loss caused by quarry and crusher owners' stop of work.

Officials who come to check quarries that are functioning legally should give prior notification. To prevent illegal mineral smuggling, surveillance and online clearance using equipment such as drones should be used. The quarry and crusher owners' association has been on strike for the past two days to press for their nine-point charter of demands.

The quarry and crusher welfare association told reporters in Coimbatore that the government should graciously consider their demands and end the strike. Because of the two-day strike, the price of gravel, which was sold for Rs 3,000, is expected to rise to Rs 10,000. Construction workers and truck drivers are among the 33.80 lakh persons who have lost their jobs.

There has been a business loss of around Rs 1,300 crore per day and 15,000 migrant workers have moved to other areas. The industry, which has invested nearly Rs 29,000 crore, has been completely affected. Like other industries, the government should help the quarrying industry, which is functioning with the permission of the government, to grow further, they said.

Furthermore, under the guise of inspection, it is said that there is a mental disturbance caused by police who arrive unexpectedly, and it is unknown who would arrive unexpectedly. There is a possibility of carrying explosives from the inside, there is no sign for those who claim to be environmentalists. Under the Right to Information Act, only public information should be provided and a no objection certificate (NOC) of those concerned should be required to provide personal information, he said.
