Former Students and Teachers of Karumalai Estate Host First Annual Football Tournament

In Valparai near Coimbatore, former students and teachers of the historic Karumalai Estate school, organized the first annual football tournament through their established foundation.


Coimbatore: The serene region of Valparai witnessed a lively football tournament recently, initiated by the Karumalai Estate Former Students and Teachers Foundation. The event marked the first annual sports meet, celebrating the legacy and future of the educational institution nestled in the Karumalai area. The estate harbors one of the oldest schools in the vicinity which has produced notable alumni including judges, lawyers, and doctors holding prominent positions in the government.



This initiative was spearheaded by the foundation's chairman M Madhavan, secretary S Singara Muthu, and treasurer B Rukkumani, who united through a WhatsApp group to establish the charity and organize the event. The tournament, hosted in the Oosimalai estate region, saw active participation from both former students and teachers.

Distinguished guests at the event included former student and doctor Thuraikannan, IMA secretary, along with Selvaraj, Estate Manager, Anbu Sekar, Anburaj, Palanisamy from the Oosimalai Estate Workers' Committee, and notable local figures like Valparai CDI Selvakumar, Muhammad, Kani Selvakumar, Amos Paramasivam, Soundararaj, John Saravanan, and former Karumalai estate teachers Kalaimani and current teachers Udhayakumar and Goodwin. They shared invaluable insights and played pivotal roles, along with general public participants from the estate, adding vibrancy to the games. Winners were honored with trophies and prizes.

M Madhavan, while reflecting on the success of the tournament, explained that the foundation was established with the welfare of the tea estate workers in mind, aiming to uplift the community. The foundation continues to support the schooling and healthcare needs of the children studying in the Karumalai area, also extending aid to those who have moved out but studied there.



This annual event not only strengthens the bonds among the alumni and current residents but also serves as a testament to the philanthropic spirit fostered by the Karumalai community.
