Two women were arrested in Chennai for defrauding job seekers of Rs 2 crore by promising government jobs. They impersonated IPS officers and ran a fake job training center.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Central Crime Branch Police have arrested two women for running a job scam that defrauded multiple individuals of approximately Rs 2 crore. The accused, Indira Gandhi and Kavipriya, were apprehended in Chennai on July 27 and have been remanded to judicial custody.
Indira Gandhi operated a job training center in West Anna Salai, Chennai, while Kavipriya worked as her assistant. The duo allegedly promised central government jobs to several individuals, including residents of Coimbatore. They collected money from at least 18 people, amounting to nearly Rs 2 crore, under the pretext of securing government positions.
The scam came to light when the victims, realizing they had been duped, filed a complaint with the Coimbatore City Central Crime Branch. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and sent a special team to Chennai to apprehend the suspects.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Indira Gandhi's daughter, Ranjani, was also involved in the fraud. The accused had told their victims that Ranjani was a successful civil services candidate working in a central government position in Delhi. They used this fabricated information to gain the trust of job seekers and convince them of their ability to secure government jobs.
Kavipriya, one of the arrested individuals, had falsely claimed to be a Sub-Inspector working with the Anti-Corruption Department in Chennai. This false identity was used to lend credibility to their operation and attract more victims.
The police are currently searching for two more suspects involved in the scam - Ranjani and Sivamalai. The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to uncover the full extent of the fraud and identify any additional victims.
