72 Percent Voter Turnout Recorded in Coimbatore Bar Association Elections

Coimbatore Bar Association conducted elections yesterday with 72 percent voter turnout. Out of 3,647 eligible voters, 2,626 lawyers cast their votes for various positions including President, Vice Presidents, and Secretary. Vote counting is scheduled for today, with new office bearers taking charge on April 1.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Bar Association witnessed a significant 72 percent voter turnout in its elections held yesterday, March 23, at the Bar Association hall. Out of 3,647 registered members, 2,626 lawyers exercised their franchise to elect the new office bearers for the term 2026-27.


The elections were conducted as the tenure of the current office bearers is set to conclude on March 31. Multiple candidates contested for key positions, making the electoral process highly competitive and drawing considerable attention from the legal fraternity in the city.


For the President's position, advocates Balakrishnan and Raveendran were in the fray. The Vice President's posts saw three candidates competing - Ayyappan, Prabu Sankar, and Thirugnanasambandam. The race for the Secretary position was particularly intense with four candidates - Anantheswaran, Sivasamy Thamizhan, Sudheesh, and Vijayaraghavan - vying for the post.


The election has generated significant anticipation among the lawyers in Coimbatore, with many eagerly awaiting the results. Vote counting is scheduled to take place today, and the results are expected to be announced shortly thereafter.


The newly elected office bearers are slated to assume their responsibilities on April 1, marking the beginning of a new administrative term for the Coimbatore Bar Association. The high voter turnout reflects the active participation and interest of the legal community in the governance of their professional body.
